Gemma Varley to present an informative session about her time as a legislative drafter at the heart of government.  Until 2016 Gemma Varley was responsible for the drafting of Victorian legislation as the Chief Parliamentary Counsel for Victoria.  Last year she was awarded the Public Service Medal for her drafting work which spanned 38 years and included the application of plain English into legislation.  There's an excellent LIJ article outlining the importance of her work here: https://www.liv.asn.au/Staying-Informed/LIJ/LIJ/April-2017/Draft-pick
