Victoria Division

On March 5th 2007, the Australian Law Librarians' Group (Vic) Inc officially became the Australian Law Librarians' Association (Vic) Inc. This name change follows a special resolution that was proposed, voted on and passed by the membership at a Special General Meeting held in Melbourne on 22nd September 2007.

The ALLA (Victorian Division) Inc is a group of information professionals with an active interest in the provision and management of legal resources. We are dedicated to promoting our profession and improving the provision of legal information in our various workplaces.

Today our membership stands at over 200. Our members are employed in a variety of sectors including academic institutions, courts, government departments, law firms and other private organisations.

We liaise with the national ALLA and interstate Divisions on matters of mutual concern.

Email List

The VALLA-Inform email list is hosted by the University of Melbourne.
When a new member joins ALLA (Vic), following acceptance of their application and receipt of payment, the membership secretary advises the list coordinator of the new member's email address. The coordinator adds their details to the listserv, and a welcome email is automatically sent.
At this point, the member can post to the list.

Via the email list, you will be notified of forthcoming meetings, special events, staff movements, updates to the membership directory and other Victorian Division news through this list. You are encouraged to make use of the list to exchange news and information, request assistance with difficult enquiries and urgent interlibrary loans (once traditional sources have been exhausted!), dispose of unwanted material and discuss any topic which is of particular relevance to Victorian members of the ALLA.

Please note: this list does not replace the national anz-law-librarians list: items of national interest should be posted to that list.

To post a message to VALLA-Inform send an email to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

The list is set up so that replies are sent to the address from which the posting to the list was made. So, if you want to reply to a list posting, and you want the entire list to see your reply, then you reply to: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
